This 1957 BMW 503 will make you feel like a classic gentleman

There’s always much talk about the famous BMW 507 and deservedly so. The 507 is one of the most stunning cars of all time, was owned by several celebrities — including Elvis Presley — and is the car that BMW recently restored for its showing at Pebble Beach. However, there’s a car that’s a bit older than the 507 but still has a lot of the charm. Welcome this icy-cool 1957 BMW 503.

Now, the BMW 503 isn’t cool in the current sense of the word, as it’s a bit old-world and looks like the sort of car that requires the wearing of a monocle. However, there’s something very cool about this old-school roadster.

This model, built in 1957, is a numbers-matching example and looks to be in superb condition for its age. While it’s showing some signs of wear, it’s in impressive condition for a car that’s sixty years old on the nose. In its silver/grey color and blue interior, this 503 is a great looking car. It has a classic look that’s timeless and genuinely begs to be driven. The interior has a robustness that seems to be lost on modern cars, with every touchpoint being made of either real leather or metal. Stunning.

Under the long hood, the BMW 503 packed a 3.2 liter V8 with two carburetors and 141 hp. That V8 was mated to a four-speed manual transmission, with a column-shifter. While 141 hp and a four-speed manual isn’t bad for a 60 year old car, it still took 13 seconds to get from 0-100 km/h (62 mph).

But performance doesn’t matter in this car, because driving around with in this BMW 503 will take you back to a time of proper gentleman. Even if you aren’t one.
