They all shot 72s in the afternoon but there were mixed fortunes for Ireland's trio of contenders in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Pádraig Harrington's level par effort at Spyglass Hill left him on three-over par and meant a third successive missed cut for the 45-year old in his first US trip this year.

Playing alongside Harrington, Shane Lowry also shot a 72 that was low on fireworks as he mixed one birdie with one bogey to fall from tied eighth after two rounds to 16th on five-under, 12 shots behind leader Jordan Spieth (65 PB).

West Waterford's Seamus Power went into his third round at Monterey Peninsula tied for 14th after he had completed his Pebble Beach round in two-under 70 earlier in the day.

Power had a bogey at the second and a birdie at the third before coming within two shots of cut line when he double bogeyed the par-three seventh and bogeyed the eighth to go back to one under par.

He needed a solid back nine and did even better, coming home in two-under 35 for a one over 72 that left him tied for 34th on three under par.

Spieth carded a seven-under par 65 at Pebble Beach to take a six-stroke lead on 17-under par over two-time former winner Brandt Snedeker (67 PB) with playing partner Dustin Johnson a shot further back after a 66.

In the pro-am, Spieth also leads with partner Jake Owen on 25 under par — one ahead of Ken Duke and Carson Daly (10).

With just 25 teams making the cut, all three Irish professionals missed out with Lowry and Gerry McManus (15) edged out on countback on the   15 under par mark.

Power and James Farrell (5) missed out by three shots on 12 under with Harrington and Dermot Desmond (11) well back on 10 under par.
