Lisburn’s Paula Grant and Lurgan’s Annabel Wilson tied for 14th in the South American Amateur Championship in Chile.

Grant (25) closed with a one-under 71 as teenage star Wilson (17) posted a level par 72 to leave them 18 strokes adrift runaway winner María Fernanda Escauriza of Paraguay on six-over par.

Escauriza, who led by four shots overnight, closed with a 68 to win by eight strokes from compatriot Sofía García on 12-under par at Los Leones in Santiago. Women’s scores

In the men’s event, Douglas’ Peter O’Keeffe (37) tied for 29th on six-over after a 76 as Canada’s Chris Crisologo beat Costa Rica’s Luis Gagne in a playoff after they had tied on seven-under par. Men’s scores

Three strokes adrift starting the final day, defending champion Crisologo shot a  bogey-free, three-under 69 to set the target before Gagne finished with a birdie for a 72 after a rollercoaster round.

The Costa Rican opened with two birdies but double bogeyed the par-five fourth and followed a birdie at the par-three sixth with another double bogey at the par-four seventh to turn in one-over 37.

While he bided the 10th to get back to seven-under, he bogeyed the 12th and had to make a birdie four at the 18th to earn his place in the playoff.

However, he couldn’t match Crisologo’s birdie there after finding sand with is approach to the second extra hole.
