Now that the BMW X7 is finally out and is about to get its first live showing at the LA Auto Show, our imagination can once again run wild. The biggest car BMW ever made was already rendered in a variety of body styles, from pick-up truck guise to Coupe SUV and I think it’s safe to say that out of all of them, the later iteration seems the most doable.
After the success of the first Sports Activity Coupe – the X6 – another smaller Coupe SUV arrived, in the shape of the X4. Market research showed that customers prefer crossovers to anything else on the market, no matter the shape so the X2 was born. Now that we have the X7, which is the largest car the Bavarians ever made, it’s only a matter of time until rumors about a possible X8 show up.
Before you break out the torches and the pitchforks, hear me out. If there’s ever going to be a good time to launch such a car, this is it. People are going crazy over SUVs these days and they are willing to pay big bucks for them. I know logic says the X8 shouldn’t exist because the whole point of the X7 was to allow at least six people to sit comfortably in this car but then again, a lot of customers want more style and, let’s face it, the X7 looks more like a tank than a car.
This ungodly creation would also benefit from the 8 Series being present in the line-up today. BMW could market it as the SUV alternative to the 8er and reel in some customers. Of course, this is all just an imagination exercise as BMW hasn’t even mentioned the possibility of making an X8 and our sources aren’t hearing anything either in the Munich HQ but who knows, in today’s market trends you better never say never.
