BMW 750Li Wears 3D Design Front Spoiler in Abu Dhabi

Just the other day we were looking at the BMW M760Li xDrive model, arguably the most aggressive-looking 7 Series you can get at the moment. However, we haven’t forgotten that tuners are also out there offering kits for the flagship BMW. One of the first to announce enhancing parts for the 7 Series was 3D Design.

The Japanese tuner launched a couple of aero bits and pieces for the limousine a couple of months after it made its debut. Now, a BMW 7 Series delivered in Abu Dhabi was showcased wearing part of their kit, and we have to admit, it looks the part. Under the hood we also have a powerful V8 while the rest of the car is wearing the M Sport package.

Together they create a powerful combination of style, grace and mean looks. The massive air intakes on the sides of the front bumper are now further accentuated by the 3D Design front spoiler. There’s also a set of 21” M Performance bi-color alloy wheels on all four corners of the car that match the Singapore Grey exterior paint perfectly. Parts from the M Performance catalogue are also installed such as an M Performance Boot spoiler, M Performance Black Kidney grilles and M Performance Metal Pedal set inside the cabin.

The 750Li xDrive model uses a V8 as we mentioned earlier, delivering 450 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to its all-wheel drive setup, it managed to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in 4.5 seconds. It’s safe to say, then, that this thing has the performance to go with its menacing looks.

Video: Review of BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition Highlights Differences

maxresdefault

The BMW i8 is, at the very least, a polarizing model. While some discredited what it stands for and deemed it a failed experiment from the Bavarian company, others embraced it and understood what was at stake during its development. As time goes by, the i8 is no longer a novelty for many people. BMW decided to spruce things up but not in the way you’d expect them to.

The i8 is still quite far off from receiving a facelift or a completely new version. The first real update it is likely to receive will be in 2018 when the i8 Spyder will be released. Until then we have to make due with a couple of limited-edition models. The first one was the i8 Protonic Red Edition.

Launched at the beginning of 2016, the Protonic Red model brings forward a couple of visual changes compared to the standard version. As the name suggests, the exterior is now painted Protonic Red, a welcome change from the standard four colors you can have as part of BMW’s standard palette for the i8 . That’s not all, as the review posted below points out.

Other small but meaningful details have been thrown here and there. They include frozen grey accents everywhere possible. The i blue color usually applied to the kidney grilles and rear bumper accents has been replaced with frozen grey. Inside the cabin, you’ll find the seat belts have changed color and Protonic Red trims adorn the dash and door panels.

New W-spoke 470 light-allow wheels painted in Orbit Grey Metallic with hubs painted in Aluminum Matte complete the exterior package. The wheels help to prove this is an original model and not the result of a wrap job. There are other small details thrown here and there but we’ll let you discover them all in the review posted below.

BMW Golf Championship Raises $2.8 Million for Charity

bmw logo

BMW has been a keen supporter of sports for a while, golf being no exception. As a matter of fact, the BMW Golf Championship held this year with the help of Indiana golf fans and Crooked Stick Golf Club managed to raise no less than $2.8 million for charity.

Conducted by the Western Golf Association, the championship attracted more than 120,000 spectators to Crooked Stick from September 6-11 to see the PGA TOUR’s best compete in the penultimate event of the FedExCup Playoffs. All proceeds from the BMW Championship support the Evans Scholars Foundation’s mission of sending deserving caddies to college. Since 2007, the BMW Championship has raised $24.4 million for the Evans Scholars Foundation.

The event was put together with the sole purpose of raising money to send caddies to college, current Evans scholars and former graduates worked as caddies throughout the week. All their tips were donated in turn for the program, adding up to a grand total of more than $1 million.

“We are proud to once again contribute to a cause that does so much good for so many deserving caddies and their families,” said Vince Pellegrino, WGA Senior Vice President of Tournaments. “The tremendous support we received from Indiana golf fans and the local and regional corporate communities helps ensure the Evans Scholars Foundation is able to continue awarding full tuition and housing scholarships to young men and women.”

“For 10 years now, it has been an honor to support the Evans Scholars Foundation,” said Trudy Hardy, Vice President of Marketing, and BMW of North America. “It’s extremely gratifying to know that so many deserving young men and women will be afforded the opportunity to continue their education thanks to the $2.8 million raised during the 2016 BMW Championship.”

The event will be held next year as well, with the goal of raising even more money for charity. The 2017 BMW Championship however will be held September 12-17 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Rolls-Royce SUV takes latest key milestone in the development program

rolls-royce-suv-update

In an open letter published in the Financial Times on 18 February 2015, Rolls-Royce undertook to regularly inform its stakeholders about the progress of Project Cullinan. Continuing this dialogue, which has seen twice-yearly updates, Rolls-Royce today publishes photographs depicting the latest key milestone in the development program of this new ‘all-terrain, high-sided vehicle’. This first full development vehicle will begin testing in public from tomorrow.

Advocates of the marque have been shown the first engineering mule built for the development of the new all-wheel drive suspension system, as well as those created to test the all-new aluminum architecture that will underpin all Rolls-Royces from 2018 onwards.

This latest development vehicle will travel to numerous locations around the world in a challenging testing program to ensure that the end product will be ‘Effortless … Everywhere’. Just after Christmas, for example, Project Cullinan will enter the Arctic Circle to undergo cold weather durability and traction testing. Later in 2017, it will travel to the Middle East to endure the highest of temperatures and challenging desert conditions.

“This is an incredibly exciting moment in the development of Project Cullinan both for Rolls-Royce and for the patrons of luxury that follow us around the world,” comments Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “Bringing together the new four-wheel drive system and the new ‘architecture of luxury’ for the first time sets us on the road to creating a truly authentic Rolls-Royce which, like its forebears, will reset the standard by which all other luxury goods are judged.”
