While the BMW E36 M3 might not get all the fuzzy loving that the E46 M3 gets, it’s still one of the favorite cars for any BMW ///M enthusiast. This particular Arctic Silver BMW M3 is one of the cleanest units we’ve seen to date. It features several aftermarket tuning parts, all finished up with a set of lightweight Forgestar flow-formed wheels. While the wheels might not be everyone’s cup of tea and to some, they sure work great with this vehicle. However, it’s the rather impeccable condition that this M3 is in, that takes most of our attention.
When the first units of the BMW E36 M3 hit the U.S. shores back in 1994, the vehicle quickly garnered a lot of attention. However, the model that was imported to the United States differed from the European one. Unlike the Euro model, the U.S. version of the E36 M3 used the S50B30US engine with an output of 240 horsepower and 305 Nm (225 lb-ft). When compared to Europe spec models, it also sported a different suspension setup and it did a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) time in about six seconds. The E36 M3s in Europe could rely on a straight-six S50 engine that produced 210 kW (282 hp). The M3 of that generation was available with a five-speed manual or an automatic transmission.
Nevertheless, BMW took note and with 1996 MY, they’ve rectified the issue. It was back then when the M3’s engine displacement was bumped up to 3.2 litres. While it still produced just 240 horsepower, the torque was increased to 240 lb-ft (320 Nm) – the same as with the S52B32US engine used in the early M Roadster and the M Coupe. And this is the same model we’ve got here today. However, this particular BMW M3 comes with a slew of aftermarket goodies, aimed at improving both its performance and looks.
As you will notice from the gallery below, the vehicle features several aftermarket aero additions. Namely, you will see a new front lip, matte black kidney grille surrounds, a rear aero spoiler and several smaller design details that push the envelope on this build, cleaning up its visual appearance. The owner also replaced the front headlights with a newer system.
Furthermore, the pristine interior is treated to a level where one might think the vehicle came out of the factory only a few days earlier. With that gorgeous black leather, packed with a 5-Speed manual, this is a dream M3 build. Nevertheless, it’s the wheels and brakes that add that final touch to this build.
The owner went with a set of Forgestar M14 wheels. Basically, these wheels come with modular forged construction. The wheel centers and the inner barrel are rotary forged, while the lip is forged roll. In turn, this simplifies the whole procedure, but also, cuts the cost of the wheels, making them a more affordable alternative to fully forged wheels. These two-piece wheels come sized 18×8.5 in the front and 18×9.5 in the rear.
Furthermore, the wheels feature a Gloss Gunmetal finish. Thanks to their custom specs, these wheels clear the large Brembo brakes with ease and these, in turn, improve the stopping power of this BMW M3. Additionally, the red Brembo brake callipers behind these mesh style wheels also add a bit of eye candy, that’s for sure.
