McLarnon continues hot form at St Andrews

Massereene's Tiarnan McLarnon continued his fine form from the East of Ireland when he opened with a two-under 69 on the New Course to lead the Irish challenge in the St Andrews Links Trophy.

Tied third at Baltray, the 26-year old is just two strokes behind Frilford Heath's Olly Huggins, who shot a four-under 67 to lead by a shot from Matias Honkala (Finland), Jake Bolton (Ogbourne Downs), Luca Filippi (South Africa), Thomas Plumb (Yeovil) and Euan Walker (Kilmarnock, Barassie).

Kinsale's John Murphy, Naas' Jonathan Yates and Newlands' Jake Whelan are also well-placed after 70s with Tramore's Robin Dawson, the Flogas Irish Amateur Open champion, on level par after a 71
