Can the new Lexus LC 500 give BMW a run for its money?

Two years ago, Lexus unveiled its much-awaited luxury LC 500 Coupe which is priced at $92,000, for the base version. The LC 500 is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 engine found in high-performance models like the RC F and GS F and sticks with an output of 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. That’s good for a 0-60 run of 4.5 seconds, and it’s paired to a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Although it only makes 470 hp, which is nothing compared to cars like the BMW M6 or Mercedes-AMG GT, the LC 500 stood out from the beginning with its engine and exhaust noise.

While the LC 500 was often compared to the M6, a more natural competitor would be the upcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe which will deliver 530 horsepower from its 4.4 liter TwinTurbo V8 engine.

This past week, at Road Atlanta, Lexus decided to show what the LC 500 Coupe is made of and invited some influencers to compete for the automotive throne on the 2.54-mile road course just north of Braselton, Georgia. The performance driving action matched up two teams of three drivers with the latest ensemble of performance coupes and sedans from Lexus including the new LC 500.
