Next year, a new entry-level X model will join the BMW family of crossovers. The BMW X2 was previewed in concept form last at the Paris Motor Show. Shortly after, prototypes have hit the road for some real-life testing, just months before its debut in production shape.

So it comes as no surprise that rendering artists from around the world have started to image what the new X2 would look like. The latest renderings come from auto-moto.com giving us a closer look at some of the alleged design details.

The rendered X2 maintains the aggressive front bumper, but compared to the concept version is more toned down and closer to a road-ready model. The kidney grille also retains the upside-down shape, a first for the Bavarians. The side view gives the same sleek and sexy roofline, enhanced by the long bonnet.

In the back, the computer generated image shows a sleek design, with a small boot opening and L-shaped taillights that wrap around the tight curves.

Powering the X2 will be your typical BMW turbocharged three and four-cylinder engines. In Europe, expect the 1.5 liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0 liter diesel in the base cars. From there, there will be the new B48 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which will be the top of the line model and likely the only US model, if we get one at all.

Base cars in Europe could see a six-speed manual gearbox as standard with the Aisin-sourced eight-speed auto as an option. The latter will be standard on higher trim models and in the US, much like the current X1.
