Video: 2019 BMW X5 M Goes Back to the Ring for More Tests

The G05 BMW X5 is already getting delivered to customers around the world, but we’re still pretty far off from seeing the M version coming out. The F95 X5 M is expected to be launched as a 2020 model which means it will arrive towards the end of 2019, leaving us wondering exactly what hides under the hood and chassis of the prototype you can see out testing on the Nurburgring in the video below.

2019 will be an exciting year for BMW M. A small army of models is expected to come around from Munich with the M badge on the boot. From the three variations of the M8 – Coupe, Convertible, Gran Coupe – to SUVs like the X5 M or the smaller, X3 M and X4 M models, we’re in for a treat. As for the big bad daddy here, this is going to be the most powerful SUV BMW ever made, most likely housing the same S63 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood as the current F90 M5.

However, since the upcoming BMW M8 will have in excess of 600 HP according to the latest info provided by BMW, there’s a chance that the high-performance SUVs like the X5 M and X6 M will get the same treatment. After all, considering their size, it’s only natural to have a bit of extra oomph on board, to cope with it. As for the transmission, all-wheel drive will be included in the mix but the question remains: will it be M xDrive?

Considering former M CEO, Frank van Meel hinted that the upcoming X3 and X4 M models will get the new M xDrive system, I think it’s a safe bet to assume that the X5 M could also get it. Of course, it makes more sense on the smaller cars, as drifting the X5 doesn’t paint a pretty picture necessarily, but it may still be a possibility, nonetheless.
