Leona Maguire
Leona Maguire added a one-over 73 to her opening 74 to move up 14 spots to tied 69th on three-over at Stage II of the LPGA Tour Qualifying School in Florida.
The Slieve Russell star (23) played the Panther Course at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice and followed a bogey at the par-three second with a birdie four at the ninth and a bogey five at the 17th.
She’s ten strokes behind Korea’s Youngin Chun, who shot a 68 to lead by a shot from compatriot Sandy Choi and first round leader Sarah Hoffman on six-under par.
After 36 holes, a total of 22 players are at two-under par or better with 10 more on one-under par.
There are 45 competitors even par or better which means that Maguire has work to do to make sure she qualifies for the Q-Series, which begin at Pinehurst next week.
A minimum of the top-25 players and ties will advance to Q-Series, contested from Oct. 22 through Nov. 3 in Pinehurst, N.C. at Pinehurst Resort.
Those at the next score, or scores, will also advance provided that the total number of players in Q-Series does not exceed 108, which currently has 62 exempt and entered competitors.
The LPGA Q-Series is a new two-week tournament which replaces Stage III (Final Stage) of the LPGA/ Symetra Qualifying Tournament to determine LPGA playing status for the following year.
It consists of two 72-hole, stroke-play events held on consecutive weeks. Scores will be cumulative over the two weeks (i.e. if a competitor shoots 4-under in week one, she begins week two at 4-under). There are no cuts in the event.
At a minimum, competitors who finish in positions #1-45, including those tied for 45th place, at the end of Q-Series will receive LPGA Membership in Category 14 on the LPGA Priority List.
Competitors who finish outside of the Top 20, will also receive Symetra Tour Membership in Category C on the Symetra Tour PriorityList.
