The BMW M1 is one of the most iconic supercars of its era and is incredibly rare – only 453 M1s were ever made – and with the timeless Giorgetto Giugiaro styling, the M1 is one of the most unique cars any collector can buy today. Initially, BMW had commissioned Lamborghini to design the M1 body but the famous Italian firm had hit financial troubles and had to back out at the last second. So, in a rush, BMW hired ItalDesign, headed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiarro, who created the iconic shape we know today.
Over the years, the M1 started to appreciate at a rapid pace, with some units being sold above the $500,o00 mark.
Yet, one auction might have given a bargain to the buyer. According to CarBuzz, the final auction price for a white M1 came in at $325,100, or nearly $400,000 less than the asking price. This particular M1 has an interesting story because it hasn’t been for sale for over 30 years and has just 8,000 original miles. Everything on it is original, down to the paint, engine, transmission, and all other body components. It hasn’t been restored, rather meticulously maintained throughout its entire life. It has been stored indoors and, more recently, was given a quartz polish.
Back in the 80s, the M1 proudly made use of a 3.5 liter inline-six engine that was mounted in the middle and developed 273 hp, which was mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The engine was also smooth, high-revving and durable.
The ad for this M1 shows that original bill of sale took place in Mexico and was later legally imported to California and later made its way to Florida, where it is right now.
