If you frequent this site, you might know that I have to major weaknesses when it comes to BMWs — E36s and ALPINAs. So what happens when you combine the two and put said combination up for sale? I lose it and start thinking of ways to justify spending large sums of money. What happens when that combination is also a wagon? I simply can’t handle the excitement. So someone please buy this 1998 ALPINA B6 2.8 Wagon before I do something stupid.
This ALPINA B6 has recently put listed on Bring-A-Trailer and it’s basically the perfect car for me. First, it’s an E36 and I love E36s, despite them not being the best or most reliable 3 Series’. Second, it’s an ALPINA and after driving a B7 I have a great love affair with the brand. Third, it’s a wagon and I love a good wagon. It’s also green with the classic gold ALPINA livery with two-tone black and grey interior. Heaven.
To make things even more tempting, it sports a 2.8 liter I6 with a five-speed manual gearbox. That smooth-revving I6 engine began life as the 2.5 liter I6 from the BMW 325i but was bored out to 2.8 liters. So it made about 237 hp and 216 lb-ft of torque. That, paired with the five-speed manual helped the ALPINA B6 2.8 get from 0-60 mph in about 6.9 seconds. Admittedly, that’s barely any faster than my E36 328i but infinitely cooler.
This specific car only has 83,000 miles on it and seems to be in really good condition. Though, it’s probably going to be expensive. There are still 6 days left on the bid and the price (at the time of writing this) is already at $3,000. We expect it to jump up quite a bit, as it’s a very rare car in America and we can see an enthusiast willing to shell out big bucks for it. Just make sure it isn’t me.
