Today I am going to show you one way to create vintage B&W images with optional window light using my "Mood Vintage B&W" Photoshop/PSE action and Vintage Glass Plate texture. This type of editing looks gorgeous on most images; including portraits, still life, and landscapes.
Original images: (Woman, Flowers, Woman holding Bible, Roses).
CoffeeShop Fine Art Vintage Photo Editing Tutorial for Photoshop/PSE:
Run the "Mood Vintage B&W" action. I have a step-by-step tutorial on using this action here.
Click and drag the texture right on top of the image as seen here and resize it to fit (Ctrl-T).
Double click the Background floral image to rename it as a Layer. That way you can move it to a different layer.
Drag it on top of the texture layer and put it in Multiply blending mode.
If you want to add window light, click on the layer mask of the Paint in Light layer to select it. Then grab a soft black brush at 100% opacity and paint in the light effect. I just made a simple window light effect here.
You can adjust the opacity and size of your brush to make the light look more realistic.
Further adjust the contrast by clicking to open the Contrast Adjustment layer on top. I usually tweak the sliders under the curve and the left Output Levels for either a matte-effect or higher contrast image.
I also did some further adjustments of the Paint in Light window effect.
You can also add the texture on top of the background image and try Multiply, Screen, Soft Light, Overlay blending mode or a combination. It really depends on what mood you want in the image.
In this example I added a beautiful vintage edge texture from the Flypaper Edges Pack 3 in Screen blending mode above the floral background image. I love this edit too.
I would love to see your own edits using this tutorial on my Facebook page!
