McGimpsey wins seventh Ulster Seniors and 13th Senior "major"

Royal Portrush's Garth McGimpsey captured the 13th senior major of his career when he closed with a three under 70 to retain the Ulster Seniors Amateur Open at Murvagh.

Winner of 14 regular "majors" at the height of his career, the Bangor man came from one stroke behind Dundalk's Peter Rogers, winkling out five birdies against two bogeys in three-under 70 that gave him a six-shot victory on one-under par 145, his seventh Ulster title. 

Birr's Billy Donlon finished second as he made a fine recovery from an opening 82 to surge through the field with a best-of-the-day, four-under-par 69.

Tralee's Michael Coote (79, 78) won the Veteran's Trophy by one shot from Lucan's Mervyn Eager.
